Journal Publication Ethics Guidelines

The publication of articles through a peer-reviewed process plays a critical role in developing a coherent network of scientific knowledge, reflects the quality of the work of the authors and their supporting institutions, and embodies the scientific method. As such, ethical standards of publication are of great importance to all parties involved.

Pyblicatuon Decision

The principle of objectivity is the cornerstone of manuscript evaluation, prioritizing intellectual content and ignoring personal attributes of authors such as race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, nationality, or political affiliation.

Fair Play

Confidentiality must be maintained by editors and editorial staff regarding manuscript information which should only be communicated to parties directly involved in the publication process including authors, reviewers, prospective reviewers, editorial advisors, and publishers.

Confidentiality

Material in unpublished manuscripts cannot be utilized in the editor's research without written consent from the author, as part of the ethical principles of scientific publication.

The Role of Reviewers in the Editorial Process

Peer review serves as a crucial instrument in editorial decision-making and the development of manuscript quality through constructive communication with authors. Reviewers who feel incompetent in the research area of the manuscript or unable to complete the evaluation within the specified time are required to inform the editor and withdraw from the review process.

Reviewer Duties

The principle of confidentiality requires reviewers to treat the manuscript as a confidential document that should not be exposed or discussed with other parties without the editor's permission. Objectivity is the standard in the review process, with criticism focused on the substance of the work, not personalization of the author. Reviewers' views should be presented with clear and structured arguments.

Reviewers are responsible for identifying relevant literature that has not been referenced by the authors and verifying the accuracy of citations for each statement. Substantial similarity or duplication with other publications should be reported to the editor.

Privileged information from the review process should not be used for personal gain. Reviewers should avoid evaluating manuscripts with potential conflicts of interest due to competitive, collaborative, or affiliation relationships with authors, institutions, or agencies.

Academic Obligations of Authors

Reporting standards

Authors of reports of original research should present an accurate account of the work performed as well as an objective discussion of its significance. Underlying data should be represented accurately in the paper. A paper should contain sufficient detail and references to permit others to replicate the work. Fraudulent or knowingly inaccurate statements constitute unethical behavior and are unacceptable.

Data Access and Retention

Authors are asked to provide the raw data in connection with a paper for editorial review, and should be prepared to provide public access to such data (consistent with the ALPSP-STM Statement on Data and Databases), if practicable, and should in any event be prepared to retain such data for a reasonable time after publication.

Withdrawal of Manuscript

Authors are reminded that withdrawing manuscripts submitted or published is discouraged, as it undermines the resources invested by editors and reviewers. If an author insists on withdrawal, they must submit a signed "Article Withdrawal Form" with the reason for their decision. Until authors receive confirmation from the editorial office, they should not assume their manuscript has been withdrawn. Authors must also not submit the same manuscript to another journal once it has been accepted elsewhere, as this would be considered unethical. For more information or to obtain the necessary form, authors can contact jurnaltapis@radenintan.ac.id.

Screening for Plagiarism

Manuscripts submitted to Tapis Journal will be screened using the Turnitin similarity detection tool and will be rejected if they contain plagiarism or self-plagiarism. The journal emphasizes the importance of academic integrity and adheres to international standards regarding plagiarism.

Plagiarism occurs when an author uses ideas, information, or words from another source without properly attributing the source, even if unintentional. Authors are required to cite specific information (such as names, dates, or statistics) from relevant sources, except in the case of common knowledge available in multiple sources.

When developing ideas from other authors, citations are still required, including for data interpretation, methodology, or conclusions. If the author uses words from another source, citations and quotation marks are required, especially if there are four or more words identical to the source. Quoting without quotation marks is not sufficient in this case.

Tapis Journal strongly upholds academic integrity, and the editors reserve the right to decline acceptance of manuscripts that are found to exceed any of the standards set out above. For further information, prospective authors can contact the editorial office at jurnaltapis@radenintan.ac.id

Correction and Retraction

Journal Tapis upholds the scientific record's integrity by allowing changes to articles post-publication only in specific instances. An Erratum is issued by the author to explain and correct errors or omissions in an article, with an acknowledgment of the impact on the conclusions. Retracted articles are not considered part of the scientific literature due to unaccounted findings, ethical issues, or plagiarism, with the retraction notice linked to the article. Publisher's Notes address corrections for typographical errors affecting article metadata, replacing the original with a corrected version within a year of publication and clearly noting the correction date. The COPE Guidelines for Article Withdrawal provide additional guidance on these processes, emphasizing the importance of transparency and accountability in academic publishing.
